
My name is Gwyneth Skye Pearson.
I am a journalist and writer from Southeast Missouri.
I enjoy covering humanistic stories involving nuance and complexity. When I am objectively reporting, I choose to find as many pieces of the story as appropriately possible. I actively seek to report on hidden or unspoken dynamics, too.
In my editorial pieces, I produce extensive and original philosophical thought. I love finding important or traditionally “divisive” topics and framing them in a way that brings people together.
My experience in journalism began when I was 19 years old at WPSD Local 6 in Paducah. I applied to be a web editor but was hired as a broadcast news producer. I would choose stories, determine which order they would go on air, write the scripts, choose sound and video elements, create graphics, fact-check, communicate with reporters in the field, and more. It was essentially my job to ensure that the show was informative, accurate, and useful to the audience.
I use those skills I learned to pave a new way for journalism today. In the modern age, major news stories are framed from the national lens. We are forgetting how to think from a local and personal lens. Nearly everything is seen from the partisan, divided framework. This is what I seek to break free from in my writing and reporting.
