Folks gathered in Sikeston on August 16 to protest ICE operations in our area. Ricardo Montes was arrested by ICE at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo on August 8th. He is now being held at a detention facility in St. Genevieve, Missouri.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The family of Ricardo Montes also held signs for Lloyd Gilmore, who died in-police custody June 10th. Folks gathered along the side of Malone street in front of Aaron\u2019s so they could be seen by passing drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ricardo\u2019s oldest daughter, Sarah, is not his biological daughter. Ricardo stepped up to raise her as his own when she was just 5-years-old. If Ricardo hadn\u2019t come to the United States and met her mom, she wouldn\u2019t have had a dad. \u201cHe\u2019s the only father I know. I\u2019m not asking anybody to feel sorry for us. If he could just please come home, I\u2019ll pay whatever I have to, I\u2019ll do whatever I have to. Just please don\u2019t judge him because of how long he\u2019s been here and the color of his skin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ricardo\u2019s son, Jacob, says his father taught him what it means to be a man. \u201cHe got ripped away from me. I\u2019m still growing and I know I don\u2019t need my dad, but my dad is still the backbone to most of my whole family. He\u2019s the only person I\u2019ll ever know that will help you with no question or hesitation. Everyday I try to match his manhood, and I just can\u2019t. He taught me from right and wrong, and this ain\u2019t right at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
