Former Scott County Fire Chief Charged in Wife’s Murder Now Faces Child Abuse Charges

Jeremy Perrien, the former Scott County Fire Chief and Sheriff’s Deputy charged with murdering his wife, is now facing charges of child abuse.

Docket entries explain that on or between October 2023 and June 2025 in Scott County, Jeremy Perrien strangled four children. After speaking with Shelby’s family, I learned those children were Shelby’s children. The charges allege that he lifted each child off the ground with belts around their necks. He also lifted them off the ground and put their heads into a fan, likely the ceiling fan. All children were injured by strangulation.

During that timeframe, he also threatened Shelby and her children. He told Shelby to kill herself, threatened to kill her, threatened to hurt her, and threatened to harm her children.

Shelby Perrien died on June 29, 2025. To learn more about what happened to here, click here. Her family hopes, though, you will click here to remember her for who she was, not simply what happened to her.
